SHARP

Founder

The architect and initiating steward of SHARP.

SHARP began with an observation about how societies treat the capability they spend decades creating.

The observation

Societies and institutions invest enormous resources developing human beings professionally: education, training, supervision, responsibility, and the long exposure required for judgment to form. That investment is deliberate and expensive.

What follows is not. At the conclusion of a conventional career, accumulated capability is routinely allowed to become disconnected from meaningful institutional use — not because it has been assessed and found wanting, but because no structure exists to keep it engaged.

SHARP was founded to build that structure: an institution capable of identifying, organizing, developing and deploying experienced professional capacity for consequential purposes.

The founding intent

The intent was not to create an association, a network or an advisory practice built around one individual. It was to establish an institution with standards, method and a body of work — one whose credibility rests on the quality of its members and the discipline of its engagements.

Founder visibility is appropriate during establishment. A new institution requires someone accountable for its direction and willing to state its proposition plainly.

Transfer of institutional credibility

SHARP is deliberately designed so that credibility increasingly transfers from the Founder to the institution itself: to its members, its leadership, its published standards, its Perspectives, and eventually its documented work.

An institution built on the premise that capability should outlast a career must itself be built to outlast its founder.
