Corporate capabilities
How a SHARP engagement begins.
Each engagement starts with a conversation about the problem, not a selection from a menu. The categories below describe the forms SHARP work commonly takes.
- 01
Advisory Review
A defined institutional question examined by experienced professionals who have carried comparable responsibility, with a considered written view provided to leadership.
Typically suited to
Decisions of consequence where leadership wants seasoned perspective before committing. - 02
Independent Observation
Disinterested professional observation of operations, processes, programs or practices, reported plainly and without institutional stake in the conclusion.
Typically suited to
Situations where internal proximity makes an objective view difficult to obtain. - 03
Human Oversight
Structured human review where analytics, models, automation or artificial intelligence inform consequential decisions — experienced judgment placed deliberately in the loop.
Typically suited to
Organizations adopting automated decision support who intend to retain accountable human review. - 04
Organizational Readiness
An examination of whether an organization is genuinely prepared for a change it intends to make: capability, sequencing, dependencies and realistic capacity.
Typically suited to
Significant transitions, expansions, integrations or operating-model changes. - 05
Experienced Professional Panels
A small panel assembled from several disciplines to consider a question that no single field can properly examine, convened for a defined purpose.
Typically suited to
Cross-functional problems and questions with technical and organizational dimensions. - 06
Leadership and Knowledge Transfer
Deliberate transfer of institutional knowledge, professional method and leadership judgment to the people who will carry the work forward.
Typically suited to
Concentrated expertise, succession exposure, or the loss of long-tenured practitioners. - 07
Specialized Institutional Projects
Defined projects requiring specific professional expertise, structured and scoped in advance with agreed deliverables.
Typically suited to
Needs that fall outside the categories above but require the same seriousness.
Engagement structure
Scope determined by the problem, not by capacity to sell.
The structure of a SHARP engagement depends upon the nature of the problem, the expertise required, the availability of qualified members, and an agreed scope of work. Those four conditions are assessed before any engagement is accepted.
Not every member performs every function. SHARP assembles appropriate capability around the institutional need, and declines work for which the right experience is not available.
Executive documents
Institutional briefing material
SHARP is preparing a small set of executive documents — a Corporate Capabilities Brief, an Institutional Overview, a High Capacity Retirement Overview, and a Human Oversight Readiness Review Overview. They will be published here as each is completed. Until then, we are glad to discuss any of these subjects directly.
